January 2021 updates

Well good by 2020! We won't miss ya. Been working on other projects but doing some work on the fastback build. The Cobra 13" Disc conversion has been tested, slick kit with great fabrication.

Test fit on some Mustang Bullitt wheels, the 8" width is a challenge unless you go with spacers.
So ordered a 17X7 US Mag for a test
This US Mag wheel style has a nice lip with no clearence issues
Next on to front suspension componants after lot's of research, upper arms and adjustable torsion bars
Front coil overs double adjustable

More to follow as the ordering of parts continues...

Hot Side, Intercooler and Radiator

Now with the Hot Side of the Turbo set up fabbed, the placement of the intercooler settled and the radiator located and mounted. It is now time for cold side, this will require the aquistion of the FiTech unit so the cold side plumbing can be done exact to where we want it. For now she waits...

Radiator Time

The decision to enlarge the factory radiator core support to allow for a larger radiator was made early on. Now with the larger opening and the turbo head location determained it was time to source a radiator for the job. We went with a spec dirt track race radiator but elected to made a modification to allow even more room for the turbo head. Once again Trent at Proformace was up for the task.

Intercooler to turbo plumbing

As we all know restomods cna sometimes be challenging, this is also true when adding power adders to projects and wanting the mods to look clean.  Working colloaborativly with Trent at Proformance is great. He was challenged to make the intercooler pipe routing clean and minimal.

Intercooler Placement

The customized front valnace provided the location of the intercooler in general. However there were some alignment geometry challenges. Trent at Proformace was able to make the needed modifications to get the intercooler in the location desired. Seeking a clean look and good cool air flow were the goals.

Winter Update as we close out 2018 and move to 2019 Custom Hot Side

Well it's time for an update!

Trent over at Proformance took on the task of doing the one off fab work for making a single turbo kit. Trent has a wide range of experience and was happy to jump in. With a mock up motor and couple ud attempts at purchasing headers and a ready made turbo kit it turned out that 21.5" between shock towers is super small. Thus it was time to pull in someone that had the skill and ability to fab a custom set up to the specifications needed for the build. After much conversation a driection was selected and the work began. The following images are some of the work Trent did.

Coming into shape

From idea to real world. Props to Cody Keeble of Glitter Garage for taking on the fab work on the front valance mod. Cody and his crew are local drift scene regulars. This request to make a one off all metal front valance vent is looking great! Rock on Cody, rock on.

Starting at the bottom

The new body plan is slated to happen in 3 phases.

Phase one:

Finish all welding and metal fabrication - inner fender wells, micro tub work, seams and trunk. Clean up all welds inside and outside of vehicle.  Modify front radiator opening for larger radiator and better cooling. Panel bond and seam sealer on all surfaces excluding dash and exterior body panels for rust and corrosion prevention.

Prep interior floor surfaces and truck then paint with selected body color. Prep and detail engine compartment and paint with color. Undercoat under complete and paint to match. Progress pics as of today.

2017 comes to and end with a restart

The year went fast, really fast but in the end the project has sprung back to forward motion.

A few steps forward is always good.

Custom metal valance mod as there was not a manufacturer located that makes a gt350 style metal front valance. Local good guy Cody Keeble stepped up for the task to make a one of a kind metal gt350 style valance with the large cooling area opened up. This will retain the front bumper and allow more airflow for the build.

The chassis has been dropped at the shop for the following:

Finish all welding and metal fabrication including inner wheel wells.

Modify front radiator support for larger radiator install.

Clean up all welds inside ans out of chassis.

Use panel bond adhesive and seam sealer on all panel joints ans connections for corrosion and rust prevention.

\Prep interior floor surface including trunk then seal coat. Prep engine department for engine mock up and coat.

Prep and undercoat seal entire under carriage.

Single turbo kit acquired and ready for mock up. This used kit has some impressive performance numbers behind it when installed on a 347 stroker.

Changes

A recent bad turn put our friend Jeremy and his Wife in harms way this past weekend. A very serious automobile and motorcycle accident left the both of them badly injured in life changing ways.

As a  result the fastback was picked up today and brought it back to base camp. Wishing a quick recovery for Jeremy in this new chapter in their life.

July 2016 Progress

A few pics of the latest progress from the body shop:

More smoothing of the exterior a super long process prepping for black paint.

A cleaning up of the rear inner fender mods. The rear inner wells have been moved inboard all the way the the frame, the micro tub has been opened up and smoothed with larger patch panels. The front inner side of these wells from the factory are very limiting. Will be fun to see what size of tire we can actually fit!

A new radiator core support has made it's on the nose. Next it will be modded with a wider opening to allow for more airflow for the aftermarket three core fox style radiator. This will help keep things cool in the New Mexico heat. We have experienced a number of weeks now at over 100 degree temps this summer in the land of enchantment.
